Does anyone know of any good sf games? Having just re-read The Foundation series, I'm interested in playing along the lines of, say, a galactic smuggler, plying the space-lanes and getting into trouble. I'd appreciate any recommendations.

KotoR (II), Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators, Space Cowboy and EVE are the only ones I can think of (some of those being MMO).

Well, you can call Fallout sort of sci-fi. ;)
There's also Space Hack (more of a hack
'n' slash if you ask me)... but can't think of
    anything else.

the Kotor Series, as well as Fallout, as people mentioned earlier are the best bets.

There's also strong RPG elements in the Deus Ex series - making them a sort of FPS/Adventure/RPG, which look interesting enough :p though i've never really played them.

i'm not sure but i think that F.E.A.R. might have a bit of that in it as well?

I listed off the ones I did cos the closest that you'll come to being a smuggler type guy is with those games. F.E.A.R is a FPS with no RP aspects to it at all - but it is a fun game.

Thanks, all. I'll check some of those out. BTW, Deus Ex is a great game, at least the demo was. A lot of stealth, skills development, and aiming DOES matter.

The closest I've come to mmo's is killing and being killed (more of the latter, by far!) in Unreal Tournament. Don't you have to pay to play these things? I can barely afford DSL.

Hmm. There are a few of the old SSI games which do this kind of thing. Check over at home of the Underdogs as I forget the names.

Of course there are the Elite series of games (and an excellent free game called Vega Strike) but they aren't really RPGs.
