Level 4 questions

Is there any need on the 4th Level for all those robes I've been lugging around for ever?

What is best: to put all the healing potions with...say...3 characters, or to spread them around with everyone?

Do I really need all that poison?

Re: Level 4 questions

Not sure on the robes, I think they're just so you can disguise yourself as one of the elemental groups, obviously if you're on the 4th level you most likely no longer need them.

As for potions I usually spread them among my back rank characters so they can run up and administer to a front ranker as needed. I never carry them on my front rank characters because drinking one opens you up for AOO's. Kinda nice that you can pour a potion down someone elses throat while they're fighting

Re: Level 4 questions

Once you've completed any of the initial quests for any of the Temples, you are accepted and no longer need the robes.

As for potions, that's really up to you're pakying style.

I normally split my potions of moderate healings or greater to all party members, leaving the "light" healing potions massed with one or two of my clerics.

The light ones I use after battles, saving the healing spells. The heavier ones are more for major (soon to be dead) emergencies, like in the middle of a battle. Although, I rarely had call to use them, due to having one PC cleric, Ronald, and Meleny, in my party.

At even higher levels, potions tend to become obsolete due to the gaining of various "mass cure" spells.

Thank you, both.

Now if someone could address the poison...

Re: Level 4 questions

I'm not positive, but I think the poison is just tossed in there to mess with players that chug the blue potions without id'ing them. Wonder if you could force it down a baddies throat, hehehe.

Yeah, its what forces you to identify all the blue potions (or at least Read Magic them nowdays). Of course poison stands out since it doesn't stack but you can't see that from the radial menu in the heat of battle.

Do I really need all that poison?

-Not on the 4th level. But the black robe with the red skull on the chest (greater robes) could open a few optional dialogs.

-Personally, i give every charcter their share of potions. Weakest charcters get few potions, and usually my magic users get the lesser (light healing) since they have few hp and they would heal with only one or two. The warrior like charcters get the more, and also the major healing, since they have too many hp. That way i distribute the weight, and save space (warriors doesn't need to carry wands, scrolls, etc) and healing spells.

-Poison isn't really a need. As it's been explained, is a kind of trap (well, not that kind).
You can use it on opponents via the radial menu, but is not strong, so rarelly will affect someone (just for rpging, i give my rogues a few, only 1 or 2 of them). I hope Ted implements other, stronger poisons in KotB.

Re: Level 4 questions

I am so glad to get those robes off! And out of the chest, as well.

Another question: What are those black scarab things for? They are jewelry, but what do they do?

And thanks, HK. Do you want a hug, too?

I was intrigued by those too.
I don't remember seeing any ability in their protos. If i'm correct, i think that those scarabs let you pass some traps on the original module (something like the electric trap, but i think the trap is on the curtains on Zuggy's throne.)

Btw, i believe that ZTGY stands for ZuTGmoY...it may be ovbious for anyone, but not for me.

I must be the 'pimp daddy.'

I don't recall that the ZTGY things do anything. A pity, but so much of ToEE is like that.

Maybe put some loot behind those annoying impassible curtains and have the amulets act as keys? I'm an obsessive explorer (every possible area of eack level must be explored/mapped) and the curtains annoy the heck out of me, hehehe.

The scarabs were talismans that let you bypass the magically sealed doors on the Temple floors in the original PnP module. They also allowed safe passage through the violet fungi curtains on Level 4. There were also phony scarabs you could find as well, IIRC.

Sadly, neither the doors nor scarabs were implemented in the original ToEE game, yet strangely included. Yet another example of the "unfinished" product Troika released so long ago. It's wonderful to see how much it's grown under the loving care of it's foster family.

Just the curtains. They had no function regarding the sealed doors, otherwise the badies would have set Zuggtmoy free many years before the campaign starts.

Which is why I always found strange that Falrinth had the Orb, but never discovered the throne entrance and the (very easy) way to set Zuggy free...

Ah, thanks for the clarification. Been awhile since I read the module.

We should all be lucky I remembered as much as I did!

Even if it was only half right (half knight??).

Re: Level 4 questions

Just sell the Scarabs Scryler and the Poison too...

You can probably get away with selling the vast majority of potions too... especially the Cure lIght ones... I keep just a couple- on each person with a couple spare on back ranks personally.

You're front rankers can avoid the AoO by moving 5 feet then drinking, and it is nice to have the option on them already- so give powerful potions to them...

Working on my hug...

Re: Level 4 questions

I 'rescued' Paida. Took awhile messing around with this tactic and that to get her to join the party, but she finally did. But now, in Hommlet, everyone, including Valden, is attacking the party. I had to kill two townspeople outside the WW Inn. I think even Elmo is attacking us.

I know I am asking for lots of solutions, but how do you get around this? I cast dispel magic on her by a PC (first had to raise her from the dead) before she would join...at the Inn, I also cast Disenchantment (or whatever it is called)...to no avail.

I guess the simplest, best, and correct advise would be: Don't kill her before you cast the Dispel Magic on her.

[Edit] - Why did you have to kill her in th efirst place? Did she attack you on sight? She does not normally do that - at least, I've not seen it.

Paida will attack you on sight if you have an NPC in the party. That's a known bug. Just leave the NPC(s) out in the hall where she can't see them and she should be okay.

And yes, killing her, even if you resurrect her later, will make everyone in Hommlet angry with you.

I didn't mess with any of the 'Butcher of Hommlet' stuff with the san_resurrect fix, but thats just plain silly. I think there should at least be a check to see if you are in the Temple when you kill her - if you do (deliberately or just a n00b who doesn't know whats going on and gets attacked by Curry Puff) you shouldn't face any repercussions in Hommlet, unless you actually go up to Valden and brag to him about it.

Unless anyone objects, I think I shall change that.
