Re: In the Service of Her Majesty The Queen

Keep drinking water to keep it clearing out. I shudder to think who would replace our Queen.

Re: In the Service of Her Majesty The Queen

Truly, it is Spring!

Most of the migrating birds are back, although I haven't seen any geese flying north. Not many Mocking Birds again, but the few who are building nests in the Live Oaks have chased away the Cardinals that arrived first.

I saw 6 young Cardinals in a large bush on my neighbor's property, 3 male, 3 female.

The Doves are back. I haven't seen any Red Headed Woodpeckers, however.

An update on my lizards, Xena and Gabe:

Green Anole lizards change from varying shades of brown to green, depending on the background color. They also change color depending upon how stressed they are...green is stress free and happy, brown is the opposite. Gabe has been brown every since I put him in the tank with Xena. I've been a bit worried about that. Well, the other day I saw them mating. Both Gabe and Xena turned bright vivid green afterward! I think that's interesting. So I may have baby lizards soon!

I have a small green saucer in the tank that I put the crickets in each morning. For awhile now, Xena has zipped down to the saucer as soon as I am done and have closed the front of the tank. Today, she was in the saucer, waiting. She snapped up a cricket before I was done putting them (4) in it. I do believe I can eventually get her to take the cricket from the long tweezers I use. Now, I've never seen Gabe visit the saucer before, but today he was in there as soon as I was done and gobbled up the largest cricket.

Speaking of crickets, I have decided to start raising my own crickets. It appears to be fairly easy and it is the only way I know of to get crickets small enough to feed to new born lizards. It's either that or fruit flies (no thanks, unless someone knows of a way to keep fruit flies from escaping through the wire tank top) or release the babies out into the wild.

The fountain for the tank is still under development. I am also eventually going to make a topper for the tank to extend it another 6 - 8" taller.

Lexi likes to lay on top of the tank. I covered part of the screen with a sheet of poster board so it is not so obvious that she is up there. Xena has gotten used to it, but Gabe has not. Zoey gets on the table every so often to peak in at Xena and Gabe, but isn't all that interested. Nonetheless, I am shutting the cats up in the other side of the house once a week to give the lizards a break.

Hah! My original idea was to get a lizard to keep Lexi busy, now I am trying to protect the lizards from the cats.

Just don't start calling me the Lizard Queen...I'd have to start behaving like a queen and bash those who do over the head.

Healthwise, I am still hacking up yucky stuff.

May the Lady smile
on you and me too!

Would you like me to hold him for you Your Majesty? (Puts on chair helmet first.)

I see a horror movie in this: "The Anoles". (Where will they crawl NEXT?)

I think we'll need a bit more help...I don't know if it is the vodka or what, but you know how crazy those Russians get!

Think they had a horror movie that is somewhat related, called Godzilla? Personally, even though I really like my lizards, I am glad they are much much smaller than I am. Similar to chickens, they go for anything that moves. Their eyes are not as glittery as a chicken's, though.

Re: In the Service of Her Majesty The Queen

Falling

it is raining

a dark dreary
damp sort of day
misty

the drops not falling
hard enough
or fast enough
to dissipate the clouds

bring out the sun
brighten the sky to blue
instead of gray

the bough before me
swaying by my face
is bent down
with the weight of water
held in the cups of tiny petals
clumped upon the end

pink

the petals are pink
now and again falling
with the rain drops
scattered here and there
on the wet wood porch planks

pink against dark brown

petals falling
drops falling

falling

I did not know
I liked pink

Re: In the Service of Her Majesty The Queen

I too hope you feel better and better Scryler.

I just wanted to post about an unusual visitor we had last night.

My wife and I sit on the back porch and watch the squirrels, birds, cats and occasional raccoon as they venture into our backyard, (even in the middle of Downtown Orlando FL).

Last night we were talking about how few raccoons actually visit and BAM! a small young raccoon decides the folks on the porch are no threat and just saunters up by my wife and decides to help himself to the food she puts out for stray cats and such.

This wouldn't be note worthy except that this raccoon hung out and we talked to it, it chittered back while sitting on it's haunches, almost like it understood us.

So, now I have come to call him Rocky and one of my cameras is now permanently aimed at where he came up at.

Animals are soooooo cool. :-D
