A good self-administered swift kick in ones own pants is a good think.
Re-focuses you and makes you humble. You gotta follow it up with learning from why you kicked yourself. ![]() I believe I can win awards for that! Now as long as you don't take the self-kicking to the "beating-yourself-up" level.

Re: In the Service of Her Majesty The Queen
A most Happy Thanksgiving to you both!!
Now to hijack this thread a bit... The Thanksgiving Menu at Emirkol's Inn Homemade Butternut Squash soup flavored with cinnamon and cumin. Roasted whole turkey, flavoured with aromatics in a homemade gravy. Yukon Gold mashed potatoes. Fresh, whole berry, cranberry sauce. (Spare canned cranberry sauce on hand, just in case) "Upgraded" (read: more grown up) Green Bean Casserole. (N helped big time with this! He trimmed and washed @ 2 lbs of fresh green beans!) Dinner rolls (J's insistence on some variation of "brown and serve" rolls )Fresh corn (Happy now, Dad?) Some sort of dish involving sweet potatoes. (Trying to stay away from the marshmallow madness... work in progress) Homemade dressing with golden raisins. (I don't stuff my bird, messes with the overall cooking time) And for dessert.... Homemade apple and pumpkin pies (A big YAAAY!! to J for gathering the courage to learn to make good pie crusts and pies. This was a big deal for her!) Homemade Vanilla and Chocolate ice creams. (Made by yours truly, the proper way, starting with a homemade custard) And last but not least, Super thick fudge brownies prepared exclusively by N! Enjoy your Thanksgiving, wherever you are and whatever you're doing! I'll save a place for you at the table!

If it was a Swanson's Turkey Dinner, you're OK.
Saved my arse on many a missed holiday occasion. Ya know, the invite was there, GA.

Re: In the Service of Her Majesty The Queen
It's 9:37 CST. All parental units have left, N's in bed, possibly not asleep but too bad.
Thanksgiving here at Emirkol's Inn went off without a hitch. Thanks to my parental units being late, it gave me a little extra time to complete and serve up the various sides. The turkey was cooked perfectly, and everything else developed the flavours I was working for. The Butternut squash soup was a big hit! Great flavours of the squash married well with the delicate flavourings of the cinnamon and cumin. The flavour from the cream, added at the end was deliteful. You know you did good when you're wife looks at you with her face aglow and says, "Honey, this looks beautiful!" J was just so damn excited by all of this! So many thanks to J for being such a teammate, N for all his help, to the parental units for bringing such a great selection of wines (Major Kudos to my Dad and Father-in-Law on that one! Great French red wines to serve with Dinner!) and to my Step-Mom for taking care of round 1 of dishes. Now, there's about a cup and a half of coffee left, the evening news, and bed. The rest can wait til morning.

Re: In the Service of Her Majesty The Queen
I hope you had a great day and an even better night.
And I hope those of you who celebrated Thanksgiving had a pleasant, warm and friendly holiday filled with love, gratitude and good food. Well. I just tried to turn on my heater, and I don't believe it is working. We are supposed to have freezing weather win the next couple of days. Not the breaker box, either. Wonderful. To all who sleep tonight on this side of the earth, The Nightly Mission: Clarity sometimes comes with a price, but not as high as the one that comes with confusion, doubt and wishful thinking. So climb into bed with a clear mind and sleep knowing the coming day will be a little better. Wake up tomorrow and stay in the moment. May the Lady smile on you, and on me too. G'Night.

Re: In the Service of Her Majesty The Queen
One Thanksgiving, all I had was a can of Turkey Noodle soup. That was it. But it was turkey, right?

Re: In the Service of Her Majesty The Queen
I hope you had a good day and that the night is going well.
It looks like the moon will be full on my birthday. So that ought to be interesting...you'd think. The weather forecast is one degree above freezing tonight. I bought 2 space heaters. I'm not even going to try to call the H/A people until Monday. Both heaters are in the bath- rooms where the most exposed pipes are...just in case it gets colder than expected. I will be curious to see my electric bill. I think I am not going to be happy. The heaters haven't shut off since I turned them on. And they are on very low. Ah well. I know how to keep myself warm. Thick toasty socks, my sweats (lovely things) and a quilted vest. I even have thin cotton gloves if my hands get too cold, and...wool army gloves. I didn't live in snow country for nothing, and some things I just couldn't throw away when I came to hot, humid Florida. And I have enough blankets to keep several people warm. To all who will sleep tonight on this side of the earth, The Nightly Mission: Sleep warm and safe throughout the night. Wake up tomorrow in the light. I ask the Lady to smile on you and on me too. G'Night.

Uh...if you have several people, you don't need the blankets.

Re: In the Service of Her Majesty The Queen
I hope you had a good day and and a great night.
It is warmer tonight, so my electric bill gets a break. I got an invite to go to the movies, and wouldn't you know it, there is only one that I want to see (out of how many?) and I am in the middle of reading the book, so I don't want to see it just yet. So I took a rain check. I thought the really good movies started coming out on Thanksgiving, but if they are, they missed this area. Maybe the movie makers got scared off by New Moon. To all who sleep tonight on this side of the soon to be bright earth, The Nightly Mission: Ahhh, the oncoming full moon's energy is already at work. Put some of that energy into your meditation before you go to bed and use it to bestow a state of grace. Sleep in the light and wake up tomorrow smiling. May the Lady smile on you and on me too. G'Night.

Re: In the Service of Her Majesty The Queen
I was asking IF the movie she was referring to was "New Moon"?
![]() I actually do have (WAY too many) chicks in my life, so I am somewhat aware of the "good" vampire genre.

My chick (Gods she'll hate that one ) isn't a fan of that particular story line, but is a big fan of the Buffy series and other vampire movies, in general. In fact the original "Dracula" holds quite a special place in our history. *nudge, nudge*

Re: In the Service of Her Majesty The Queen
I hope you had a good day and the night is even better,
The full moon is coming up soon, and I am already feeling it. I think it was warmer today, too. I didn't have to turn on the heater until just a few minutes ago. I am not bothering with the heater in the other bathroom unless it gets down to freezing again. Which it will, eventually. I had some hope for the next couple of days, that they would be brighter than the last several, but I think that was only wishful thinking on my part. Back to asking the Lady to smile on me and grant her blessing. That seems to work, if only temporarily. To all who will sleep tonight on this side of the brightening earth, The Nightly Mission: Sleep warm and safe tonight and wake up tomorrow in the light. May the Lady smile on you and me, too. G'Night.
