New modded install - Procedure Compatibility Help

Greetings Ladies and Gents,

While recently dusting-off my game collection, I dug-up ToEE and seriously started considering giving it a second chance: my first attempt was almost 3 years ago and I never finished it, completly overwelmed with various bugs plaguing the game.
So, while I was browsing the internet hoping for some new patch releases since, I stumbled upon your wonderfully dedicated community, and Ho My, I see patches, mods, conversions... Ze paradise I say!
So, I did my homework for about a week, reading forums, piecing together information, crossreferencing posts and...well...I'm a little overwelmed:
I have gathered the most recent files I could find and attempted an install. It seemed to work but I most recently noticed that I might have installed things in the wrong order (installed cumulative mod 5.0.3 before lauching the ToEEFE).
A good install is like a good cooking recipe: put things in the pot too early and you will end up with mush, put them too late and..well.. you'll end up calling the local pizza delivery!.
So, I would appreciate very much if I could get some help getting my install in the right order.

1/ my ingredients:
- ToEE the original game
- toee_patch1_enu.exe
- TOEE_USA_ANY-PATCH2.EXE
- Circle_of_Eight_Mod_Pack_5.0.0_Final.exe
- Cumulative_Mods_5.0.3.rar
- ToEEFE 4.00.zip
- Gaear's_New_Movies_v2.rar
- dllfix16.0.3.rar

2/ according to "how to do" posts, the basic order should be:
1- uninstall previous install through ToEEFEE, clean-up everything
2- install fresh ToEE game
3- install patch1
4- install patch2
5- install CoE mod pack 5.0.0
6- install ToEEFE 4.00
7- lauch ToEEFEE, then exit
8- lauch cumulative mods 5.0.3

If this is the right order, when do I add "Gaear's new movies" and "dllfix16.0.3"?
Also, please point me to any updated files that might have escaped my search.

You see, I did my homework .

Cheers
-younes

Re: New modded intall - Procedure Compatibility Help

You add those at the end of the whole process. Also remember
to delete all .pyc files in your scr directory as well as in every
other directory present.

Re: New modded intall - Procedure Compatibility Help

A couple things to note: make sure that in your step 7 above you don't just start ToEEFE; you must also launch the Co8 5.0.0 mod (by selecting it from the list on the left) through ToEEFE. This means that the game itself will actually start. When that happens certain folders get renamed that allow the 5.0.3 patch to be subsequently installed correctly (your step 8).

You've probably already seen it since you were so thorough with your research , but in case you haven't, just above this thread is a sticky thread called Comprehensive Installation Instructions by Zebedee. It contains a very thorough rundown of all the nuances of a good installation.

And the movies can be installed at any time, doesn't really matter. The .dll fix should go last, as maggit says.

Refer to this thread (posts 82 and onward) for any scattered mods that have been submitted since the last Cumulative Mods and Fixes patch. Be aware that these haven't formally been tested for compatability yet though.

Good luck.

Re: New modded intall - Procedure Compatibility Help

After redoing the install and installing everything in their default directories, I have found only one .pyc file in: C:\Program Files\Atari\Temple of Elemental Evil\data\scr.

It is the only file I need to remove?

Re: New modded intall - Procedure Compatibility Help

You don't have any .pyc files because they are created as we play the game.

Can people please refrain from giving the 'clear all .pyc files "advice"' to folks doing fresh installs? The current score is somewhere in the vicinity of:

problems caused by this advice: many
problems solved by this advice: none

This advice should only be given, if at all, to people doing updates who have problems.
