I have installed my much maligned copy of ToEE, installed 2.0 and the Co8 5.0 patch. I was playing it and enjoying it immensely (Kudos to all involved, BTW), but after a 2 day hiatus, I receive an error upon starting the front-end:
"0013: Error: One of the game folders can't be accessed! Make sure that no other application uses any of the game folders, then try again."
    and an ok button.

How can I fix this and return to kicking butt? Naturally, I have made sure no other program is using the files, and then tried powering down the PC and rebooting. I have attempted reinstalling the Co8 patch, to no avail. In the interest of full disclosure, I had run ad-aware se during the hiatus...could this have something to do with it?

Ad-Aware could be the culprit, as well as any programs you have running in the background, such as AV or memory management software. Check the common issues and solutions thread that is stickied at the top of this forum. (Hmm, maybe that would have been a good idea before posting.)

Sometimes you can just retry a few times and the frontend will start up without problems, even without turning off all the background gubbins. Your mileage may vary and Blue's post gives the only fix.

Being the author of the Front-End and knowing all its intrinsics (and playing with it regularly for more than a year, too ;)) , I never came across an unsolvable problem like error 0013 showing up for no apparent reason at all. Usually errors like that are caused by the background software kicking in and getting the handle on files that are necessary for the front-end to function correctly (usually an anti-virus/anti-spyware package, or, alternatively, spyware). Sometimes the Norton Antivirus is known to cause 0002, 0013, and possibly other errors. With older versions of ToEEFE it sometimes even caused the front-end to go into an infinite error loop which might have required you to reinstall the game. It's advisable to disable any background harddrive monitoring software when playing games, and it's very true for ToEEFE.

If the problem persists, contact me with a detailed report and I'll try to help when the time permits. Usually it's possible to solve this and other similar problems by getting acquainted with the "Common Issues and Problems" thread.

Ok, I am getting these errors now as well.

I have taken alook at the .NET CLR Exception list, and it throws one for each error - a Throw to catch depth / sec which is equal to 0

On my other comp, everything works fine, but on this one, it doesn't.

The only difference is that the PC with the problem has a graphics chip that shares memory (768 MB mem). Perhaps this is the problem?

    System

PC with WinXP SP2, DirectX 9.0c
    768 MB memory
    2.4 GHz Intel processor
Integrated Intel Graphics Processor, set to 256 Mb AGP usage in BIOS.
    .Net 2.0
ToEE with patch 1, 2 and no-CD patch for patch 2 english.
    ToEEFE 5.0
    CleanInstall done

Amount of torn out hair - more than two handfuls.

I actually got it to run, once. Despite the error, it started up - but the next day, no chance.

The normal ToEE starts fine, and runs well.

    Help?

I have installed and re-installed 8 times now.

Well, just glancing at this recent post here -----> http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=4727

I suspect this may indeed be the issue.

I used the program Procexp (a better Taskmanager for Windows) to take a look at what the status of ToEE was when the error is thrown, then I just take alook at the.NET errors.

If you look at the Application log in the XP event viewer, what errors are generated and logged in the Application log?
    * Copy and paste the errors relavent to ToEE and, or .NET in one post.

You said you are now getting these errors (according to the dotNET Common Runtime Language). What errors? [ # 0002, # 0013, # nnnn - ??? ]
    * Copy and paste the error numbers and descriptions in one post.

Do you have Norton Internet Security or Norton Antivirus installed on that computer that will not run ToEE? If yes, have you uninstalled Norton?
    * If you have Norton Internet Security Installed and you want to know how to fully remove it from your computer check the The Kaptain's Korner thread for the post # 17 article, "How To" do a clean uninstall of Norton Internet Security.".

I am not at my other computer right now, but I can say that there is not (and never has been) Norton Internet Securities on it.

I will post tomorrow with the details you have asked for.

    Thanks for the help.

I get the following errors (two of them, one right after the other after closing the first one - clicking on ok) :

0013: Error: One of the game folders can't be accessed! Make sure that no other application uses any of the game folders, then try again

0014: Error: One of the game folders can't be accessed! Make sure that no other application uses any of the game folders, then try again.

Then the Front End comes briefly, then disappears.

I am not finding entries in the Application logs - strangely enough.

Install the newest version of front-end.
The errors may still show but the game
    should launch.

    Well...progress.

Still crashes on me, but at least it actually tries to run the thing. I get the following error :

    For example:

    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
    </configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

    Any ideas?
