    Hey up chucks.

    Tiny, tiny spoiler possibility.

I have searched for this so if it's been asked before, sorry.

I can't seem to give the orb of sah to the old gypsy once I get it off the young lad (name escapes me). Whenever i talk to the old gypsy woman i only get the end dialogue option. I tried before and after freeing mona the younger gypsy.

Is there a (really, really) simple fix to this?

    Mona’s Crystal Ball
    -------------------
When you first talk to Mona she will accuse you of being a thief. Use
Diplomacy and tell her that you are not a thief and she will say that someone
has stolen her Crystal of Sah. She will say that she knows that someone named
Mickey has her crystal. You can find Mickey out on the streets at night, (or
all the way back in Hommlet during the day) when you confront him he will
eventually offer to sell it for 500 gold. (according to Therumancer, you
could also use Intimidate here and he will give you the crystal for nothing.)
Take the crystal back to Mona and give it back to her to complete this quest.
-Note: Hanzii has told me that having Serena in the party will cause Mona to
stop talking to you. So if you buy Serena’s freedom before and put her
into the party before you return the Crystal then you won’t be able to
    finish this quest.
    Gypsy Road
    ----------
If you talk to Serena she will tell you her story, apparently Mona helped her
out with some debts, but now keeps her as a slave. Talk to Mona about this
and you will be able to purchase her freedom (or just purchase her...) for
500 gold. Pay the money and talk to Serena again to finish up this quest.
After you buy Serena’s freedom you can ask her to read your future. After her
fairly obvious fortune, (you are going to the Temple, SHOCK) she will ask you
what kind of adventure you would like. You answer here will have an effect on
the game. The answers you can give are:
-“Whatever the gods may have in store for me, I am prepares.â€
    UNKNOWN
    -“I look for challenging adventuresâ€
    UNKNOWN
    -“Gold and more goldâ€
On Dungeon Level One you will be able to rescue some merchants who will
give you 100 platinum if you free them.
-“I seek humor in all things, even when the moment may not warrant itâ€
On Dungeon Level One of the Temple you will find Ted, Ed, and Ed, three
spectacularly useless NPCs that you can recruit.
-“I wish for great honor and heroicsâ€
    UNKNOWN
    Preston Wetz’s Tooth of Pain
    ----------------------------
There is an old man named Preston Wetz who will yell at you if you talk to
him. You need to use Diplomacy to get him to admit that the reason that he is
in such a bad mood is that he has a bad tooth problem, and he has no money to
pay for a dentist. He says that Mona the Gypsy owes him some money, (well,
something like that...) but can’t collect it because she has been robbed.
When you return the Orb of Sah to Mona (See “Mona’s Crystal Ball†for more
details) you can talk to Preston and tell him that Mona is back on her feet
    again to finish this quest.

You asked for more information, so I did some research.

    Does nothing.
    Does nothing.
Makes the Heroic Merchant appear in that room of Temple Dungeon Level One. This has been removed in 5.0.0 as there are now other uses for that merchant elsewhere.

And there is another option for Evil parties:

Makes the Sad Merchant appear in that room. This has not been removed in 5.0.0 but should be as there are other uses for that merchant elsewhere now.

Sorry to ressurect a really old thread, but I have a question, if I may:

May I ask where this merchant appears in 5.0.4 or 5.0.5? Is it Ah Fong?

I'm fairly sure the Heroic Merchant does not appear in 5.0.4 or 5.0.5, as those CMF's are based on the Co8 5.0 Mod, which removed him.

And no, it's not Ah Fong.

One other thing - CtB's answers in the post above yours are out of date now with the 5.0.4 or 5.0.5 CMF. The "challenging adventure" option does, indeed do something.

That's one of the problems with thread necromancy - you get old info.

Ah, okay... I think I phrased my question badly. I wasn't suggesting that 5.0.4 or 5.0.5 put him back in in his earlier incarnation after he was removed from 5.0.0, I was referring to the bit where he says he was removed from 5.0.0 "as there are now other uses for that merchant elsewhere". I'm asking what the "elsewhere" is, and my asking "Is he Ah Fong?" was basically asking if he was removed because he was redundant with Ah Fong. If that wasn't the case, then where is the Heroic Merchant now? Note again: I'm asking this based on CtB's suggestion that he was moved "elsewhere".

As for the thread necromancy, that was the only thread I found upon searching that said anything about the various Gypsy Road options. If there's a more recent thread that discusses those options, that thread somehow fails to include the words "Gypsy Road".

But since you mention it, toss me a hint about what the Challenging option gets you? :)

It gives you a challenging adventure. A lot of fun too. It is not original ToEE content.

Thanks all, I figured it out, asked for the "challenging" option and got a spot on my world map that I'd heard lots of references to on this board but haven't played yet and didn't know how it'd be accessed. I'll assume this is the -only- way to get that area to open up.

I guess it kinda resolves the merchant question I had, heh, cause I doubt the merchant has anything that could compete with a whole new area and content :)

Sorry to necro a thread but I went with the challenging adventure option and it didn't give me any extra spot on my map. I have 7.9nc.

EDIT: Just read an updated thread about HB http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=7919&page=8 here saying it won't be available until you make it to Verbobonc.... Now I just have to figure out how to get to Verbobonc. I read another thread...somewhere saying it would not open up until after you beat the game but then another here giving the steps to get there. Which is right?

The path to Verbobonc does not open until you beat the Temple and it's hidden leader, (revealed via movie once you get the skull).

Once you have beaten the evil power lurking in the depths of the Temple a selection titled Path to Verbobonc will appear in the list to the right of the world map.
