heya, new to board and game - need help
heya all,
just got the game for $10 at best buy and it looks awesome, a real d&d simulation got some problems tho.. tried to patch but it kept telling me that it needed the play disc when i tried to play it, no matter what disc i had in so i just reinstalled and didnt install the patches (read here somewhere that the $10 best buy game was already patched) but i did install the mods (fan fixes and livonyas) now i can get thge game to start and work, but am still having troubles... first off scrolling is IMPOSSIBLE. i tried the fixes from this forum (instralled logitech mouseware etc) but its still impossible to scroll secondly, i made a chatic neutral party, killed an air elemental and a couple of zombies, but now dont know where to go (think the scrolling is making my life horrible, and the gamma is really bad) i opened one chest, but the other is locked and i cant pick it (though maybe something was in there to help me) is the interface really this bad with the scrolling? if so i dont think ill be able to stand playing this game, it takes longer to scroll 2 inches than to fight a battle any help out there? am i doing something wrong? id rally like to play this game as it looks awesome thanks in advance -jedimessiah |

Re: heya, new to board and game - need help
Try following these steps to reinstall. Plus, there is a bonus at the end of my instructions.
control panel -> add/remove programs -> uninstall Livonya's Beta 1.5.1 MOD control panel -> add/remove programs -> uninstall Temple of Elemental Evil Windows Exporer >> C:\Program Files\Atari\Temple of Elemental Evil >> delete what's left Reboot Install ToEE using the original 2 CD disks Reboot Install the Atari Official Patch1 -> ftp://ftp.infogrames.net/patches/to..._PATCH1_ENU.EXE Install the Atari Official Patch2 -> ftp://ftp.infogrames.net/patches/to..._ANY-PATCH2.EXE Install the Co8 Fan Fixes 3.0.4 -> http://www.co8.org/files/patch/ToEE...ixes_V3-0-4.zip * Extract the executable file from the zipped file and run the executable file. Install the Livonya's Beta 1.5.1 MOD -> "http://files.co8.org/mods/Livonya's Beta 1.5.1 Mod Setup.exe" * Copy the content of what is inside the double quotes to the URL address bar of your web browser and click go or press enter. Select to save the file to your hard drive, not open it. After it is on your hard drive, then, run the executable and install this MOD. ** If you use the setup.exe version of Livonya's MOD, you do NOT need to add the single temple.dll fix as her MOD uses his temple.dll patched file. Reboot You can replace the ToEE.exe executable file with the no-cd fix executable file after you reboot your computer the third time. * You can get the ToEE no-cd fix below. DOWNLOAD *** Temple of Elemental Evil v2.0 [ENGLISH] No-CD/Fixed EXE (V2.0 for ENGLISH ToEE) -> http://m0002.gamecopyworld.com/games...tal_evil.shtml |

Re: heya, new to board and game - need help
Definitely follow this advice. The game should not be played unpatched. The no-cd thing is unavoidable for some people without the crack, so do that too.
That said, I'd hesitate to install Liv's mod right off the bat. It's significantly harder than the original version, and if it's your first time through you may enjoy the easier version more. When finished, you can install Liv's mod for a greater challenge and some new quests/encounters/etc. Just a suggestion. Regarding the chest: if you can't pick it (considering the game gives you a 20 on the roll to do so), it's beyond your abilities at the moment. You'll need to do something to improve your skill in this area. At least one bard song will do it, as will a second level dex-boosting cleric spell. So will gaining a level and adding you your open locks skill, or getting masterwork thieves tools. (You can open the roll window by clicking the 20-sided die icon above the menu in the lower right corner, and click on the blue "failed" text where it reports the result of your lockpick attempt. This will open a new window giving you a breakdown of what you rolled and what you needed to roll. This will tell you how much you need to improve to open the chest.)

Re: heya, new to board and game - need help
If you don't install Liv's mod, you're going to need temple.zip, I believe.
You can get it here: Temple.zip ---------- http://www.jadri.com/temple.zip -or- http://www.co8.org/files/patch/temple.zip 1. Unzip the patch. (Double click the folder you downloaded and choose the extract all files option in the corner of the window (XP)) 2. Find the file in you GAME'S directory called "temple.dll" and remove it. (Put it somewhere you can find it again.) 3. Take the "temple.dll" file from the unzipped patch folder and put it where the original file was. 4. Inside the patch folder should be a folder called "data". Inside that folder should be three new folders. Take all of them and put them into the game's "data" folder. Once that's in there, you should be all set to go. If your previous game was a Liv-modded game, you should probably start again from scratch, though you can use the same characters, if you wish.

Re: heya, new to board and game - need help
heya,
thanks lord, but i may have gone too fast... i rebooted, unzipped the entire temple.dll into toee folder (overwrote all) and then replaced my toee.exe. did a test and it works great, i can scroll all over the place now only concerns..didnt follow YOUR exact step (didnt do your steps 2 and 4, basically just overwrote, didnt save the temple.dll or do anything with the 3 data folders) should i start over? am i gonn have problems down the line? my problems seemed solved now, and i did follow the direction from the sticky (current patches and mos) from this forum thanks for all your help -jedi |

Re: heya, new to board and game - need help
You are fine. The temple.zip was actually designed to be installed the way you did. When you unzip it to your ToEE folder it puts everything where it is supposed to go. That is the way I have always installed it.
As far as the chaotic neutral opening, if you can't get the chest open you are pretty much stuck. You almost have to have a Rogue to get through it. Of course, any character with a full point in open locks should be able to open it, since the game does give you a 20 on the dice roll to open it. |

heya,
havent tried again since i reinstalled properly. is there a first time alignment you recommend? or several? as to the chest..i opened the first one that gave me a key to the second door...in second door with zombies i couldnt open the chest (with a rogue with 20 dex and 4 points towards lockpick w/ regular lthieves tools) -jedi |

Re: heya, new to board and game - need help
easiest = magic user with knock spell memorized and ready
try = any spellslinger with cat's grace and, or fox's cunning memorized and ready to cast on rogue * sometimes, its an intelligence that counts, not dexterity |

Different alignments only brings your party in to the game using a different background, the opening vignette. I do not think there are better and worse alignments. It's only preference and choice regarding the kinds of responses and decisions you want your party to make, how often and when to talk, kill, lie, bluff, cheat, or help others.

As for alignments to start with, CN is my favorite. LG, NG, CN, LE and CE have combat in the opening viginette (though LE's combat is so easy it's hard to call combat). The rest just have talking. I prefer the combat ones because you get xp before the game really starts, and you might get some loot. But really the party alignments just add to the replayablility of the game more than anything else. |

Re: heya, new to board and game - need help
version 1 is for after installing only the atari patch1, hence the name version 1
version 2 [is newer] and is for after installing both atari patch1 and atari patch2, hence the name version 2 |
