    Walking

    You walked with me
    for awhile
on the road of broken hearts
    stumbling along
    in the dark

    Off in the distance
    far away
faint through the red fog, a light
    our sextant

    I held your hand
or was it that you held mine

    Did you make it there
    I wonder
did you find your way alone

    One of us grew wings
    and flew
    the other couldn't fly

Who knows if it was you...
    or I

You've certainly a knack for this sort of stuff - thanks for sharing it with us.

    You're welcome.

I've come to realize that my 'verses' are how I process conflict.

I think of something that bothers me, generally in an emotional way, and a picture forms. (I call them snapshots.) I write a few lines, go out on the porch to smoke, and come back in with a few more lines. I may smoke quite a few cigarettes before the verse is done.

Often, I find out that what I've written isn't about the issue or situation I thought it was. And a verse usually has layers to it as well. A few are straight-forward, but most are not.

The latest one is an apology...one long overdue. I think most of them are some form of apology, although that is a new thought for me and one that needs some reflection.

I don't call my verses poetry. I know just enough about poetry to know I am not a poet, nor do I want to be one.

I sincerely thank Co8 for letting me post them here. I don't think I could have written them otherwise.

    :) I thought you said you weren't a poet?

Does this mean that you were a poet & didn't know it :)

    Keep'm com'n sister - they're good for the soul.

    Dragons

    Miles and miles and miles
    the feet keep walking
one foot in front of the other

    Miles and miles and miles
    the heart keeps beating
    and beating and beating

    Don't look back
    there are dragons there
    just keep walking
    don't dare stop
    keep moving

    The hours pass,
    then days, then weeks
time creeps and crawls at first
    then the years flow by
    one day blurring into another
and another, a year gone, another,
a decade flying into an eon

And still the feet keep walking
    the heart keeps on beating

You can hardly hear the dragons now,
    perhaps they have gone away,
    tired of the unrelenting chase

    But no...suddenly there they are
    swooping down, striking for the
    heart, tearing it...finally apart.

Scryler, this instantly reminded me of the countless miles traveled along tank trails while serving in the big green machine. Wore out the soles on a couple pairs of leg boots ( still have them in my duffel bag along with several sets of BDUs - funny the things we keep :) ) during those road marches.

The "Dragons" were the need to keep going, to not think about the pain and turn your mind to something else.

Sometimes, we need the dragons. They help us remember what is important, what is worth fighting for.

I'm thinking you should gather your collection of Poetry and self publish on Amazon - really - you should.

    Boxing

    The path narrows I've heard
some say it's the only way
    to freedom

At the fork I put my feet
    on the path I was
    trained to take.

    And trudged gamely on
    watching it narrow
    careful to place
    each foot just so

    But it seems to me
    so long and too short
    at the end

    Feeling the box
    getting close,
    ah so close

If I had it to do
    all over again
    I'd choose the
    hangman's noose

My computer died and with it went all my verses. I guess I could have some techie retrieve them, and I might, but I decided to copy/paste them from my 'Queen' thread. I am grateful that I was allowed to post them here.

I have started copying The Cavern, but I am too tired to do more than the first page of the post. I'll finish copying it tomorrow night.
