Reincarnation changes race?

I tried reincarnating a human but she kept coming back as human. Has anyone had their character change race? It seems to have been intended (Jaroo mentions the risk) and it is written in the manual (I believe so).

 

I believe it is hard coded that reincarnation will act like a raise dead. So no changing races or sex of the character.

 

I second this. Unfortunately (changing things can cause some fun situations) Reincarnation works like a Raise Dead only, in ToEE.

 

Yup, except for a much larger XP penalty until you apply Restoration.

 

I think it was done so as not to confuse the engine when you change races vs what class(es) you are for XP penalties and racial weapon proficiencies.

Plus coming back as a badger makes things difficult.

Ok, so changing races is not possible short of going to a tavern and recreating the character with a different race.

I was thinking that it would be possible to fix the exploit of very cheap reincarnations to include the 5,000 for unguents by adding a dialog line (unvoiced, of course) saying, "oh, yes, and you should pay for the 5,000gp in unguents that I will need to use." Would there be interest in this fix?
