Crafting vs XP.
Hi, my first post (I've been lurking for over a year though) and I've got a question.
Crafting takes some experience of my crafter which means my party will no longer be balanced in terms of XP. Any way of making it balanced again? Also is it worth doing a lot of crafting say 2000 xp worth? |

Re: Crafting vs XP.
I craft almost the same things everytime I play. My party is usually 4 players. They each have a +3 holy/flaming burst/shocking burst/Icy Burst, plus others if possible on their weapons. I craft 2 +6 strength belts, 4 +6 amulets of wisdom, and 2 +6 headbands of intellect. This is significantly more than 2000 XP. My cleric and wizard are always 1 level below the fighter and rogue. With these items alone, you can walk up to Zuggtmoy and bitchslap her so hard her momma will say ouch.
If you feel that you need to have balance, xp wise, within the party, craft as much stuff as you can as early as you can because you'll get more XP from the tougher monsters which will close the XP gap.

Re: Crafting vs XP.
You never close the gap, but being one level behind means that character get more experience from each fight, and some fights he will be the only one getting experience.

If you're really bothered by uneven experience levels, remember that you can use NPCs to craft for you. I often take Spugnoir out on some wilderness adventures until he levels up to 4, so he can make me a Helm of Reading Magic and a Vest of Escape. Using NPCs costs you xp, of course, since they take a share from each encounter, but the loss is evenly spread to all party members. |
