I have just finished off killing a lot of undead, and hill giant skeletons. Only cost me 2 PCs. But the Arena "man" has not arrived yet. Seems I am stuck in a loop. How do you get it to end. My thief had the book, but is dead, and I cannot make the game go forward, and I do NOT want to repeat it, only for the tedium factor.
Have you killed all the enemies? The guy usually shows up a little while after you do that. If you charmed/rebuked any undead in the fight, you'll need to kill those off too.
If he doesn't reappear automatically, first try walking around the map where he normally stands. If that doesn't work, save and reload and he should pop back up.
I consoled in scrolls of Raise Dead to bring my Thief back to life and use the book, and the Arena Guy came right away. I do feel guilty about the scrolls. Maybe not.
