Which level is he? I think there is a potential flaw in the monk's
level progression in ToEE. I assume you've taken deflect arrows
before it became a bonus feat for your monk. Am I correct?

@ Scryler: Yes, the monk level progression was always known to be a bit broken in certain places, it could be one of those issues. Anyway, it's nothing that should be directly related to TFE-X, but just so that I can check it anyway, can you please tell me what regional version of ToEE you are using? (US version, some European version, etc.) Not sure where you are from and where you bought ToEE, so I have no idea which version you are using.

On a side note, you don't need the old front-end at all to work with the new TFE-X, so don't *ever* run it when installing ToEE Front-End X unless you have to - if you need to run it once to switch modules back you'll be informed about that by TFE-X. Otherwise, just DON'T use the old front-end, it won't do you any good and if worst comes to worst you'll get an extra issue or two as an extra "bonus" (especially with v5.0.6 - the old front-end is especially unstable with that).

Oh, and speaking of the log file, it's very handy so I'd actually advise you to post it here - you can find it in your ToEE root folder, it's called TFE-X.log.

Might not be FE error. I think the only feat available is Deflect Arrows. Have you already given it or maybe the monk doesn't meet the requirements?

I am going from L1 to L2. I have already taken Deflect Arrows - perhaps that is the problem? If it is, what can I do? Start over? What happens when I increase levels later on?

I never did think it was a FE error/problem, but then, I don't know a whole lot, so posted here because of bug reporting instructions. I bought the game in a packaged set of games...BG, NWN, ToEE and a couple of others. I bought it on-line, Amazon, I think, so assumed it was US version. I'm from Florida, USA. I don't use the old FE.

If it is still necessary to post the log, I think I have found it, but it isn't under TFE-X.log. Looks like the others posted in this thread, so assume it is. Should I still post it? Should I zip it? (Oh boy, what fun that will be!)

If this is the wrong thread, can someone move the post to the correct thread?

    Thanks.

I don't know any other way except to start over. I like female half-orcs myself. Don't give up on monks. That's how you model Guardian Angels and 3rd Dan black Belts. ;)

BTW, don't be afraid to start your own thread. :)

That would most likely be the problem.

You can make a new monk. Just get rid of this one by going to the Welcome Wench inn, re-roll him/her or use the console commands to roll up the same one. There are also
commands which let you give a desired amount of experience to any character you want.

@ Scryler: Since it's the US version, it definitely *isn't* a TFE-X problem. Also, whatever log you might have found is probably not the one I have in mind because the only log TFE-X automatically generates at every startup is TFE-X.log. If it *does* look like what others submitted, it's really weird that the file is named differently... Actually, I'm curious: what *is* the file name of the log file?... But anyway, the problem you're talking about is definitely not a problem caused by TFE-X, and therefore it's not necessary to post the log itself either. It's not the correct place to discuss problems that are not related to TFE-X, so please don't discuss that question here anymore (you can start a separate thread for that though); I won't actually move the posts though because I'd like all the issues reported here to stay as they are because it's important for my internal bug tracking. However, the problem is officially considered closed now (on the ground of having nothing to do with ToEE Front-End X).

ANNOUNCEMENT: I'd like to inform everyone that I'm going to delete the old unsupported ToEE Front-End v4.01 permanently from the Circle of Eight board in a few days. The new ToEE Front-End X has proven itself as a stable and reliable platform, and the old platform that was used before really has to go. I'd like to remind you that the old front-end became unsupported since the day ToEE Front-End X was released. It was confirmed that the old front-end had issues, especially with the newer revisions of our mods, and the only reasonable way to fix the issues was to write a brand new front-end based on completely different and safer principles. During both our internal testing phase and the public release phase the fact that the old known issues, such as the 0002/0004 errors and partial game installation corruption, were confirmed as completely fixed in the new ToEE Front-End X.

Responding to your question, even though the problem has been officially resolved: the file is TFE-X. It is an 8KB text document. Some of my files have extensions, others don't. I haven't been able to fix that. This one probably has the .log ext but it isn't showing.

You can tell what file types are by activating the 'file type' column in the folder. Whatever columns you currently have in that folder - Name, Date Modified, Size etc - right click on them and you should have the option of selecting a 'file type' column as well. Or right-click on the relevant file, choose 'properties' and the very first thing it will say is 'type of file:'.

To zip something - well, you really do wanna run Winzip and play with it, thats a great little tool, but the easiest way is to right-click and select 'send to / compressed folder'. That'll create a zip file of the same name there in the folder.

UPDATE: Uploaded a new version of ToEE Front-End X (v2.1). It adds the ability to automatically create a shortcut to ToEE Front-End X on the desktop during the deployment phase.

There was a post here reporting a game crash when using the Co8 mod v5.0.6. It was moved to a separate thread because it has nothing to do with ToEE Front-End X, it's a game/mod issue. The new thread can be found here: http://co8.org/forum/showthread.php?p=75833

    Hi, I am casual player:

I have never been here before so I guess the first thing is to congratulate everyone for all the hard work put into this old game, to be honest this game wont be playable w/o circle of eight as we all know the original was infested with bugs.

Well to the point, dont worry I wont make this post crazy long. I installed version 5.0 of the circle of eight and the patched to 5.0.6, then used the last front end -X (2.1) and used this config to play the game, I used all the options (adds on) like desperate h. quest and humble npc, also I play in window mode and my party config is 3 PC and 5 npc, my OS is windows XP sp2 BTW.

The game run flawless and the new fron end x works perfectly most of the time, I have noted that the custom quest, is not working the desperate h. quest, I dont really know since I have never completed the quest at all but the first npc is not giving me the list the quest seem broken somehow. And the second and the most annoying is that the game randomly closes itself, this happens every now and then when changin maps, but is very weird it almost never happens but it does, another thing is that it closes itself at some random points out of the blue, for example in the battle against the high priest in the central room of level 4, I love to fireaball him and his army, but using the new front end x I am unable to do so as the game keeps closing itself at random giving no error message at all.

Well I dont know whats going on so any help I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

@ BummerNN: Please don't jump to conclusions, everything you reported is not a problem with ToEE Front-End X, it's a problem with the v5.0.6 patch (and to be more precise, not even as much with the patch itself as much as with the general level of difficulty as to how to install and patch everything correctly) - it's quite hard and problematic to get v5.0.6 installed right at the moment, especially if you're a newcomer and if you never dealt with the cumulative patches before.

A new, easy-to-install, intuitive, and ToEE Front-End X-ready mod package, called the Circle of Eight Mod 5.5.0, is coming soon - it'll include all changes since v5.0.0 till v5.0.6 (inclusive) plus extra new stuff. You are advised to wait for it to be released (shouldn't take us too long) - it'll solve your problems and the package will be very easy to install and use (no need to perform any custom manipulations and patch your game with multiple archives anymore).

    Constant Crashes.

Ever since installing the new FTE-X I have been experiencing constant crahses. Was running the old front end with 5.0.3 and encountered the Nulb crash. So I came to check out the boards and found. the new update so I exceitedly tried it out. It played well ofr little while and then I started getting random crashes, usually at map changes but not always. I get an error reading:

    ToEE.exe: ToEE.Exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x2112ddba" referenced memory at "0x022de858." The memory couldot be "read". Click OK to terminate program.

I'm running the game in Win XP service pack 3. I've tried reinstalling from scratch multiple times. I remove the game and all files, then reinstall the original game form disk, followed by patches 1 and then 2. Then I extract FTE-X into the root directory and run it allowing it to do all its stuff. Then I extract Cumulative_Mods_5.0.6 into the root directory and select convert ToEEFE Modules from the the File menu of the front end. Then close the Front end and restart and whne it finishes I activate the Co8-5.0.0 module and when ready start the game.

Here's my log file from last attempt.

The crashes begin happening as early as the shop map.

My computer is running McAfee Security Center but I don't think that's the problem.

I have seen other reports on here where you have said that its not a front end problem but an application problem. This one would seem liek it might be that but 1) not sure where the best place to post it and 2) its only started happening since I began using the new front end.

Oh, also its the same with both v. 2.0a and v. 2.1.

Really looking forward to trying the next update,5.0.5. Until then any help would be greatly appreciated. I love the work you all have done here the is the best computer game for playing ACTUAL D&D 3.5 rules and if not for oyu guys it would be such a huge piece. Thanks for all your hard work. Let me know if there's anything I can do to get this working before the next update. If not...when is that going to be released?

    Sorry this is so long.
