Can't extract KotB or Co8 mod

    sirchet if you had read all of the posts you would realize I did all that. The only reason I posted the reply before this one is because that it was suggested I try that. I load front end with the module in ToEE folder and it doesn't show up. I open front end with the shortcut for it or by clicking on the module and nothing is on front end. I even made up a folder called addons and tried putting it in there, still not showing up. Perhaps I'm not waiting long enough after clicking on it, although it seems as if nothing is happening. I will try waiting for over an hour and see what happens.

    So I waited an hour and a half, and it still isn't showing up. Not sure how long it should take, but that seems long enough.

    Ok, so if I understand you correctly, you bought the GoG version of ToEE, which installs by default to
    And you installed the mod
    The installation instructions should have informed you to install the mod into your games root directory. In other words, in the folder your game is installed in, IE where the ToEE.exe and temple.dll files are.

    Installing the mod into any location the base game isn't located will result in this error.

    Yes it is installed in the ToEE folder. I double click the KotB mod and front end starts, but the mod never shows up. I installed ToEE directly onto the C: drive, as per instructions.

    So you have the front end running, and it only shows the base Temple, not the KotB module... but after downloading the module from GamesDB you put it in the Temple game folder and you see it there with File Explorer? I wonder if it's a Norton thing, long ago when I had Norton I had serious issues installing the Co8 mods, and ended up switching anti-virus software (I didn't like Norton anyways and it was free so I felt I was out nothing to do so.)

    Ok, I think I have it.
    Your machine is not recognising these as exe files.

    Rename the file Ted_knows_best.exe and then run it.

    I assume that ted is making a joke. I have Norton disabled while running it. If Norton is running it detects front end as a virus and quarantines it. Also I normally have Norton on my machines and haven't run into this problem before. I was wondering if the download may have somehow changed. Although if I am the only one with this problem, most likely not.

    The Co8 download hasn't changed in years, it's been the same since 16th September 2013.

    And I was fairly sure Norton was one of the more ToEE friendly antivirus programs out there, I know I have never experienced problems with it like the ones you describe.

    I had very similar issues with Norton when I had it (again, years ago, but still...) - even when Norton was disabled it still managed to do wonky things to my attempts to install the Co8 mods. May be a totally unrelated coincidence, if you believe in such things. *shrug*

    What did you install to get TFE-X on the computer without either the Co8 or KotB mods? I still think you may want to try uninstalling TFE-X and then start the KotB self-extractor. Worth a shot anyways.

    So I installed ToEE on my wife's laptop. It does the same thing, not sure if I am doing something wrong or something wrong with the download. She has no antivirus software. Only has windows defender. And is running windows 10. The folder is on her main drive, the module is in the ToEE folder. Front end is run as admin.

    This is perplexing. I will try to get to the bottom of this, tomorrow I will perform a clean installation from scratch just to confirm or rule out any problem with our current installation process.

    In the mean time, I have been uploading the zipped module data for both KotB 1.0.1 and Co8 8.1.0 NC to my personal Onedrive. The files are huge and it's taken a considerable length of time to upload so far today. You may download and extract the module's data files to the ToEE root directory (where ToEE.exe is) and run TFX-E.exe and activate the modules.

    @Zmeck I hope this will at least temporarily resolve your issue until we can figure out what happened.

    I don't know, it might have just been your download was corrupted. I had to set up fresh on my new computer - which I did after this thread started - and I had no issues at all. Now happily cruising around the keep, trying to get the thieves' guild to notice my shenanigans.

    Whatever the cause, glad it worked out for you.

    I too doubt it is the download itself, many have managed to get it to work since release, I will test tomorrow anyway, just to confirm it isn't the download that is responsible for this issue.

    I'm glad my workaround fixed your issue though @Zmeck.

    Dude, really? Did you even try what I suggested? This is a problem (a very few) other people have encountered, eg HERE.

    Alternately, this same problem seems to have been reported HERE with no apparent reason. Hard to see why a download that has served thousands effectively should become corrupt just for a few.

    Kudos to Allyx for creating a work-around.

    Allyx zipped the files and your PC was able to recognize the archive(s) in that format, which is why is worked to manually put everything where it goes. The Co8/KotB downloads as gotten from our host are executables in themselves (not archives per se, though they contain archives in their data), which means you have to run them to get them to do all that automatically. Either your system simply didn't recognize the files as executables or it was confused by the version numbers we append to them, which is much more common - e.g. "Co8 8.1.0.exe" is seen as a ".1.0" file due to the dot placement as opposed to an .exe file. There's no such thing as a ".1.0" file so no system knows what to do with such a thing, but not all systems get confused by the nomenclature to begin with.

    In this day and age you shouldn't be manually building any installations for any finished mods - the installation utilities should do all that for you. You need only follow the instructions, and in this case there should have been a red flag gone up when step 4 in ours wasn't completed to satisfaction.
