I understand that a while back, we were limited to modelling objects with 1 bone only. This rendered new monsters, containers etc. beyond our reach. But from what I gather, in the past year the file formats have been cracked. Is it possible now to create a max/blender plugin to import / export animations? And are there still artists around to create content with said plugin?
I think this is a good call. Far be it from me to tell others what to do, but I think if HK, Leksey and DarkStorm put their heads together, we could have new animations up very quickly. May I suggest a generic cat? (Could be meshed as everything from alley cats to panthers and tigers). Stand it up - a trick HK has already mastered - and you get a rakshasa. And a reworking of the 'eye of the deep' as a proper beholder? And a reworking of the crayfish as a scorpion? And a reworking of an appropriate humanoid as a mind flayer? And another as a medusa? And another as a wight? And a mummy? And a drider? And a proper bird? And a formian? And a horse, of course!
couldn't centaurs be made eaiser with a reworking of the lamia, and couldn't a horse be made with a reworking of the leucrotia (sp?)?
Has there been any progress in getting custom models and/or animations into TOEE? After reading a recent thread about creating a red dragon, I presume that the answer is no. Out of interest, what has been the major blocker?
I don't recall that any formats had been cracked (though my memory fails me these days), but no, unless people have been working on it in secret, no progress has been made here.
The graphics formats are known, and have been made public, thanks to DarkStorm. All that's needed now is someone with the spare time and programming knowhow... (wish I had either...)
I was curious on this so I scavenged the forum. This is what I found: July 29th, 2006 - Agetian: SKM (3D Skeletal Model) File Format Specs August 14th, 2006 - Leksey: ToEE models viewer September 16th, 2006 - Leksey: 3DS Max Import/Export plugin September 13th, 2009 - Agetian: The .SKA format is already cracked, I just need to find the specs (I put them somewhere and can't find them at the moment, perhaps the recent HDD crash is to blame). If I find those, I'll post them here so that a full-blown plugin may be written. [I guess Agetian lost them or never logged in again] September 16-29th, 2009 - DarkStorm: Okay I finally figured it out and got working animations... I've implemented blending between animations to enable smoother transitions between animations.... Btw. comitted the code for the current version to SVN for anyone interested. July 21st, 2010 - DarkStorm - Full MDF Documentation [I don't know what MDF is] The code by DarkStorm can be found here So it should be possible for someone to use DarkStorm code to write a Blender/3DSMax plugin that would allow us to add any possible model with animations to the game. EDIT: Are there any modelers/designers still lurking in the forums? What programs can you use to create a model and animations? If someone where to write an import/export plugin, it would be good to know if there would be a restriction on the tool. IMO Blender seems to be a good option since it's free.
I am interested in knowing this. I was able to use the tools by XVicious to convert SKM to obj and then modify and view the model in Blender, but his tools to convert back to SKM do not work for me at all. How can I get a model from blender back to SKM for temple to read?
